Excellence Is a Habit collects nothing. There is no account to create, no server to send anything to, and no analytics, telemetry or crash reporting in the app. It has no third-party dependencies at all, so no other company receives anything about you either.
Where your data lives
All of your data is stored on your device. If you are signed in to iCloud, your data also syncs through your own private iCloud database, which Apple provides and only you can read. Your settings sync the same way. The developer of this app has no access to any of it and no way to obtain it.
The one network request
The app makes exactly one kind of outbound request, and only when you
ask for it. When you give a new habit a link, or paste a list of links
using Bulk Add Links, it fetches each page so it can read the title and
name the habit after it. Those requests go to the sites you entered and
nowhere else; only http and https addresses are
fetched, each with a ten second timeout and a size cap. Apart from that and
your own iCloud sync, the app does not use the network at all.
Your habits in system search
The app adds your habits to Spotlight so you can find them from system search. Each entry holds the habit's name, its status, its contexts and its description; your notes are never included. The index is Apple's, held on that device, and it is not sent anywhere. It is rebuilt as your habits change, and removing the app removes it. You can switch it off for this app in System Settings, under Spotlight (on iPhone and iPad, under Siri & Search).
Permissions
The app asks for a permission at the moment you turn on the feature that needs it, never at launch, and it works without any of them.
- Calendar — only if you turn on calendar integration. The app then keeps a calendar named Excellence and writes an all-day event for today and for upcoming days. Those events contain a title, a date, a count and a link back into the app. If you also choose to show your events inside the app — today's in Active, and upcoming days' in Scheduled — they are read on your device and displayed there.
- Reminders — only if you open Apple Reminders in the app, which is part of Excellence Pro, or use Copy to Reminders. The app then reads your reminders and lists on your device to show them beside your habits, and changes them in Apple Reminders only when you do: creating, editing, moving, completing or deleting a reminder, or managing a list. What the app adds to a reminder — efforts, notes and a goal — is kept in the app's own data, which syncs only through your iCloud as described above.
- Notifications — only if you turn on start alerts or the count on the app icon. Notifications are scheduled locally on your device. Nothing is sent through a push server.
Purchases
Excellence Pro is a one-time in-app purchase, handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. The app learns only whether the purchase was made, from Apple's receipt on your device; it never sees your payment details or Apple ID.
Getting your data out, and deleting it
Export produces a zip of two CSV files — every effort and every note — saved wherever you choose. Other apps can reach your habits only through the actions the app offers to Apple's Shortcuts, and only when a shortcut you built or added runs them; the app keeps no copy of your data on disk for other apps to read. Deleting a habit deletes its efforts, notes and goal with it, and deleting the app removes its local data; data in your iCloud account is managed by you, in Apple's iCloud settings.
Children
The app is not directed at children and collects no personal information from anyone, of any age.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. If a future version of the app ever collects anything, that will be said here first and plainly.
